Lexington Foot and Ankle Center, PSC utilizes a Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (MRI) system for those patients who find
standard MRI systems to be too confining, noisy or intimidating.
Seldom is patient comfort and cooperation as critical to
viable diagnostic results as during the MRI process. The
open, permanent magnet easily and comfortable accommodates
patients unable to tolerate traditional closed systems such
as children, patients who are anxious or claustrophic and
those with physical limitations.
The MRI uses radio waves and magnetism rather than x-rays
to create images of the lower extremities. "These images
are of such amazing clarity and detail that our physicians
are able to pinpoint a number of problems that can occur
in the lower extremities," according to Michael C. Allen,
DPM, a local podiatric surgeon and spokesman for Lexington
Foot and Ankle Center, PSC. MRI is considered non-invasive,
offers fewer risks and better results than some alternative
methods in identifying such images as soft tissue structures,
bone infections, bone marrow disorders, trauma, tumors and
stress fractures.
The C-Scan Open MRI system is designed specifically for
imaging the extremities and provides high quality images
of the ankle and foot of equal or better quality than whole-body
MRI systems. "C-Scan provides a stress-free MRI examination",
explains Dr. Allen. "The system we offer features an open
magnet design that combines a spacious exam environment
with the ability to provide images so detailed that they
approach the fine line anatomical drawings found in medical
textbooks. "
According to Dr. Allen the addition of the C-Scan System
compliments and extends the range of high quality diagnostic
services already available through Lexington Foot and Ankle
Center, PSC to the residents of Lexington and surrounding
areas. For more information regarding foot and ankle issues
or to schedule an appointment please call 859-278-8855 or
